Book: Web Design on a Shoestring

Author: Carrie Bickner

I think this one came my way via Zeldman or one of other NYC Web Standards folks. My memory also says this was a late 90s book but the book says it was published in 2004 — don’t get old kids, there’s only so much room for accurate memories.

I think I bought this one to get a feel for what the world of freelance web development really looked like, and left with the uncomfortable feeling that part of developing websites on a shoestring was leaving people like me out of it — or maybe including me but not paying me for it. This would be a constant struggle for a good chunk of my career before I realized the agency world and the publishing world were not for me.
